Catholic Health’s St. Catherine of Siena Hospital has earned the Gold Seal of Approval for Total Hip and Knee Replacement from The Joint Commission, an independent organization that sets evidence-based benchmarks for safe, high-quality patient care. The national distinction—offered in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons—recognizes the Smithtown hospital’s outstanding achievement in meeting the specialized needs of patients receiving hip and knee replacements.

To achieve Gold Seal certification, a hospital must undergo a comprehensive onsite review in which Joint Commission officials assess the full continuum of care from pre-surgical consultation to admission to discharge planning. By earning the designation, St. Catherine of Siena Hospital met The Joint Commission’s rigorous criteria for hip and knee replacement, including patient and staff education, performance monitoring, patient-reported outcomes, clinical documentation and adherence to evidence-based practices.

“Quality and safety are at the core of every decision at our hospital and across the Catholic Health system,” said Christopher Nelson, MBA, president of St. Catherine of Siena Hospital. “This recognition from The Joint Commission reflects the dedication and commitment to excellence of our orthopedic care team, and we’re proud of the exceptional work they do every day to keep the Smithtown community healthy.”
