Mercy Hospital Celebrates 64th School of Radiography Graduating Class

For 64 years, Mercy Hospital's School of Radiography has been shaping the next generation of medical imaging professionals, and last month, Mercy Hospital proudly celebrated another milestone with the graduation of our 64th class.

Nineteen graduates crossed the stage during a commencement ceremony held at the DeMatteis Center, marking the second consecutive year the program has graduated 19 students. As they begin their careers, they join a distinguished legacy of radiologic technologists who have gone on to serve patients across Long Island. In fact, there is a good chance that the imaging professional who performed an X-ray or diagnostic imaging study for a patient or loved one is a graduate of Mercy Hospital's School of Radiography.

The school's success is rooted in the vision of Dr. John J. Magovern, who served as Mercy Hospital's attending radiologist and Director of Radiology for 31 years. Together with the late Sister Mary Constance of the Congregation of Infant Jesus, Dr. Magovern founded the School of Radiography in 1961 with a mission to educate skilled, compassionate imaging professionals.

Today, that vision lives on through the John J. Magovern Memorial Fund, established by Dr. Magovern's family, friends, and professional colleagues. The fund supports the School of Radiography through scholarships, continuing education opportunities, and initiatives that enhance patient care within Mercy Hospital's Department of Radiology & Imaging. The School of Radiography continues to exist through the generosity of the John J. Magovern Memorial Fund and Mercy Hospital.
