Dental Health

The Stephen B. Gold Dental Clinic, located at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, New York, partners with the Suffolk County Dental Society, New York State Dental Association, and American Dental Association to participate in Give Kids a Smile Day. This event provides free dental exams, cleanings, and fluoride treatments to underserved children in the community.

The clinic also hosts Give Veterans a Smile Day twice a year at the Stephen B. Gold Dental Clinic. These events offer U.S. military veterans free dental cleanings, fillings, routine extractions, oral cancer screenings, and other essential services.

The clinic has received generous support in the past from several organizations, including:

Mother Cabrini Health Foundation: Funding has enabled significant technology and equipment upgrades, as well as construction that doubled the clinic’s capacity. This support has allowed the clinic to treat more patients and provide charitable care to the uninsured, underinsured, clergy, and U.S. military veterans.
Marilyn Lichtman Foundation: Provided funding specifically to support dental care for veterans.

The clinic's dental treatments are delivered by residents from St. Charles Hospital’s dental residency program. In addition to working alongside professional hygienists and dental assistants, the residents are supervised by private practice dentists who are experts in:

• Endodontics—tooth pain and root canals
• General dentistry—overall oral care, including cleanings and exams
• Oral surgery—surgery of the mouth or jaw
• Orthodontics—abnormal alignment of the teeth and jaws
• Pediatric dentistry—oral health of children
• Periodontics—gums and other structures that support teeth
