Why is it important to have a primary care physician?

Primary care is the key to long-term health. Your primary care physician (PCP) is your partner in your health and wellness journey. Regular physical exams and appointments can help catch potential health issues early – often before symptoms appear. Your PCP is also your main point of contact to coordinate and refer you to any specialized care you may need.

At Catholic Health, our doctors focus on preventive medicine and building long-term partnerships to ensure you have the best possible health outcomes and an improved quality of life.

What can I expect at a primary care appointment?

An annual exam with your PCP gives you the opportunity to talk about your concerns and get answers to any questions you may have. You will also discuss your family history, past or current medical conditions, and any medication that you may be taking.

During your annual exam with your primary care physician, you may commonly receive:

  • Physical examination and check of vital signs
  • Weight, blood pressure, and temperature check
  • Blood tests to check blood sugar and cholesterol levels
  • Vision and hearing tests
  • Urine screening
  • Immunizations if necessary

Your PCP will also recommend any additional screenings or specialist referrals you may require.

Your PCP will always be there—as your medical home—to facilitate your health care needs at Catholic Health.
