Catholic Health’s St. Charles Hospital (Port Jefferson, NY) earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that sets standards for excellence in patient care. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems in place to prevent harm.

“We are delighted to have earned the nation’s top distinction for patient safety with an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group,” said St. Charles Hospital President Jim O’Connor. “This is a true testament to our staff’s unwavering commitment to patient safety. We work diligently every day to provide the highest quality patient care, improve patient outcomes and enhance the overall patient experience. Receiving this prestigious Leapfrog recognition is a reflection of our continued commitment to our patients in Port Jefferson and surrounding communities.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors and infections.  Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring.

“Catholic Health, continually strives to ensure top-quality care across all our entities,” said Catholic Health’s Chief Medical Officer Jason Golbin, DO, MBA. “As our hospitals earn best-in-class rankings, we share these best practices across all of our facilities to foster a continuity of exceptional care throughout our system. We are very proud of our facilities that earned top hospital safety grades from the Leapfrog Group this year.”
