Today, Catholic Health’s St. Catherine of Siena Hospital, together with local elected officials and physicians from Long Island Spine Specialists, P.C.,(LISS), cut the ribbon on the hospital’s new Center for Spine and Orthopaedics. As part of St. Catherine’s journey to become a Center of Excellence, Catholic Health has welcomed five fellowship trained, board-certified orthopedic spine surgeons and three multi-board certified physiatrists from LISS.
The Center’s opening is part of Catholic Health’s system-wide Integrated Spine Service, a program that offers premium spine and pain care at select Centers of Excellence and integrates all Catholic Health facilities into a seamless referral network that facilitates high-quality, comprehensive spine care across Long Island.
“It is our hope that patients find comfort in knowing that they are in a healing environment, with a dedicated and compassionate medical care team, who will assist patients on their road to recovery,” said St. Catherine of Siena Hospital President Christopher Nelson. “I am confident that the Center for Spine and Orthopaedics at St. Catherine of Siena Hospital will be a top regional destination for residents of Smithtown and surrounding areas to receive the best there is in spine and orthopedic care.”
The Center for Spine and Orthopaedics at St. Catherine of Siena Hospital is staffed with highly trained orthopedic and post-operative nurses, patient care assistants and expert rehabilitation specialists who work closely with a patient’s physician to support a safe and timely recovery. The newly renovated, post-operative inpatient unit consists of spacious private rooms, a family waiting area, a physical therapy and rehabilitation gym, as well as a patient and family lounge.
Upon being admitted to the Center, patients will receive special amenities, such as beautiful flowers and cozy blankets, and will also be treated to a nice selection of the hospital’s Executive Chef Signature dishes. In addition, each patient is welcome to have one overnight guest stay, ensuring that family and/or caregivers can play an important role in their loved ones recovery process.
St. Catherine of Siena Hospital is also undergoing a $5 million operating room (OR) expansion to accommodate complex spine cases. The OR expansion will include state-of-the-art intraoperative imaging technology -- providing surgeons with real-time, 3D imaging of the surgical site, enhancing precision, allowing for a comprehensive visualization of the anatomy. The OR construction is expected to be completed by the end of December 2025.
