Mercy Hospital Turned Pink for Annual PINKtember Community Celebration

Catholic Health’s Mercy Hospital brought breast cancer awareness into the spotlight early during its annual PINKtember celebration on Tuesday, September 15. Approximately 250 community members, survivors, families, staff and supporters gathered for an afternoon focused on education, early detection and hope.

Held each September, PINKtember encouraged the community to begin important breast health conversations before Breast Cancer Awareness Month officially began in October. Just as finding breast cancer early was important, Mercy believed raising awareness early mattered, too.

The event featured free mammogram screenings, conversations with physicians and health experts, educational resources, stretching led by Elizabeth Hashagan and a variety of community vendors. Attendees also connected with breast cancer survivors and celebrated their strength, courage and resilience.

PINKtember made breast health information and screenings more accessible while surrounding survivors with the support of their community. The event also encouraged women to understand their risks, speak with their physicians and stay current with recommended screenings.

Free mammogram screenings were available to eligible Nassau and Suffolk County residents age 40 and older. Insurance was not required, and funding assistance was available through Pink Aid.

The celebration was made possible through the dedication of Mercy Hospital’s physicians, clinical teams, event organizers, community partners, vendors and many volunteers, who helped turn the hospital pink for a meaningful afternoon of awareness and connection.
