Infusing Compassionate Care

Danielle Kyrillidis, RN, OCN, is an oncology nurse. Part of The Catholic Health Cancer Institute at St. Francis Hospital, she works in the Infusion Unit, administering chemotherapy to our cancer patients. 

“I joined St. Francis in 1994, when I was still a nursing student at Molloy College,” recalled Danielle. “I was fortunate to be able to work part-time as a nursing assistant (now called CCP), while attending school. Originally, I worked in pediatrics. Then when I graduated with my BSN, I moved into the RN role and worked on various units. But wherever I’ve been, I’ve always found St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center® to be a warm, inviting environment, highly supportive of continual learning.”

Danielle likes the unique culture of Catholic Health. “There’s a family atmosphere here, one that encourages open communication and teamwork. Everyone is willing to help one another—whether it’s walking a visitor to a patient’s room, answering a question or just extending oneself to lend a hand.”

At Catholic Health’s cancer institutes, which are located across Long Island, the disciplines work together as one to care for their patients. The infusion unit collaborates with the pharmacy, dieticians, pastoral care, social work, all functioning as one integrated team to support patients and their families. 

“We are truly one with the patient,” said Danielle. “I am happy to come to work each day.”

Asked what advice she has new employees joining Catholic Health, Danielle has a ready answer. “Be open and willing to learn; be receptive to constructive feedback. And always remember, we are a family.”
