“When you give to St. Charles, the money goes right to work in your community,” John says. “It makes you feel good to be helping your community.”

Through their leadership, they are establishing a legacy of healing that ensures future generations of Long Islanders will always have a reliable, compassionate health care anchor. For Mary and John Fitzpatrick, Good Samaritan University Hospital St. Charles Campus is more than a health care provider; it is a vital thread woven through their family’s history. The couple’s deep-rooted commitment to the campus grew from witnessing the transformative, consistent care provided to their own parents during their times of need.

When Mary’s mother suffered a stroke, the proximity and quality of the rehabilitation center allowed the family to stay connected during a difficult recovery. The impact was even more striking for Mary’s father, who arrived at the facility in a critically weakened state. “The rehab facility here was amazing. They took him from being bedridden to getting back to a normal life, being physically able to do all the tasks of daily living,” Mary shares. “When we brought him back to visit months after, they couldn't believe he was moving the way he was.”

Because St. Charles has played such a pivotal role for their family, John and Mary are dedicated to ensuring it remains a pillar for future generations of Long Islanders. Today, John channels this gratitude into leadership as the Chairman of the Foundation Board, working alongside Mary, a long-time member of the Friends of the Foundation. Together, they have seen firsthand how philanthropic support translates into life-changing medical outcomes.
