The Catholic Health Preventive Cardiology Program takes a preventive and multi-disciplinary approach to reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke and other chronic conditions associated with untreated or undiagnosed cardiovascular disease.

The Preventive Cardiology Program is beneficial to individuals with high-risk factors for heart disease, including:

  • Family history of heart disease
  • High blood pressure and High cholesterol
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • Obesity
  • Prior heart attack or stroke
  • Smoking

Certain medical conditions may also increase the risk for heart disease:

  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Diabetes
  • Kidney disease
  • Sleep disorders

If you have any of these risk factors or want to lower your risk of cardiovascular disease, this comprehensive program is for you.

Our team of St. Francis Heart Center cardiologists can help you understand your risk of heart disease and provide guidance and tips to help you reduce your risk. We focus on early detection, lifestyle changes, and treatments to help you improve your heart health. Our cardiologists partner with specialists across Catholic Health to identify and address early signs of heart disease and support all aspects of your heart health.

We take a personalized, preventive approach to cardiac care to improve your cardiac health and overall wellness.

Features of Our Preventive Cardiology Program:

Cardio Consultation

Initial Cardiology Consultation

Your initial visit begins with a thorough risk assessment, including a discussion regarding your current health and lifestyle to determine your chances of developing heart disease. Our team also uses this assessment to build a personalized preventive cardiology plan for you.

Evaluation tools and diagnostic tests include:

  •  A medical, surgical, and family history screening questionnaire
  • Blood pressure check
  • Blood tests
  • Imaging tests including cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), coronary calcium scoring, duplex ultrasound studies, echocardiogram and stress testing
  • Genetic screening (for those at risk of inherited heart conditions)

Developing a Personalized Preventive Cardiology Plan

Following your risk assessment and full evaluation, you will be contacted by a Preventive Cardiology Clinical Coordinator who will:

  •  Answer any questions you may have
  • Advise you of any additional tests you may need
  • Guide you through the next steps of the program.

Based on your results, your cardiologist will create a personalized preventive treatment plan to address your cardiac care.
