Catholic Health’s St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center has again been ranked one of the top hospitals in the country, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings. The hospital is nationally ranked in seven adult specialties: heart & vascular surgery; diabetes & endocrinology; gastroenterology & GI surgery; geriatrics; orthopedics; pulmonology & lung surgery; and urology. It is also rated High Performing in the high-acuity specialty of Neurology & Neurosurgery.
St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center is the only hospital on Long Island to be nationally ranked for heart & vascular surgery 18 times by U.S. News. The Roslyn-based hospital was also recognized among the top 10 hospitals in both New York State and the New York Metropolitan Area.

In addition, St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center was rated as High Performing in 19 common adult procedures and conditions, including abdominal aortic aneurysm repair; aortic valve surgery; congestive heart failure; colon cancer surgery; COPD; diabetes; heart arrhythmia; heart attack; heart bypass surgery; hip fracture; kidney failure; knee replacement; leukemia; lymphoma & myeloma; lung cancer surgery; neurology & neurosurgery; pacemaker implantation; pneumonia; prostate cancer surgery; stroke; and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
Other Catholic Health hospitals receiving High Performing ratings for common adult procedures and conditions include:
- Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip earned high-performance ratings for heart bypass surgery and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
- Catherine of Siena Hospital in Smithtown earned high-performance ratings for congestive heart failure, kidney failure and pneumonia.
- Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson earned high-performance ratings for hip replacement and knee replacement.
- Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre earned a high-performance rating for diabetes.
The annual Best Hospitals report from U.S. News evaluated more than 4,400 medical centers nationwide in 15 specialties and 22 procedures and conditions. The methodologies are based largely on objective measures such as patient survival, volume and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.
