Catholic Health’s St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center has appointed Albert DiMeo, MD, its new Chairman of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery. In this role, he will lead the department’s clinical and research initiatives, continuing its award-winning mission of providing patients with world-class cardiac care.

Dr. DiMeo has served as Vice Chairman of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center since 2022. He will succeed Newell Robinson, MD, who has held the role of Chairman since 2008.

Under his stewardship, St. Francis will continue to lead the way in cardiac innovation to provide lifesaving care to our patients, always with a level of compassion unique to Catholic Health.”

Prior to joining St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center in 2015, Dr. DiMeo served as Chief of Robotic and Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Dr. DiMeo earned a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies from Duke University and received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed a residency in General Surgery and a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, as well as a residency in Surgical Oncology and a fellowship in Thoracic Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Upon Dr. DiMeo’s appointment, Dr. Robinson will continue to serve as Co-Director of the John Brancaccio Structural Heart and Valve Center at St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center and Chairman of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Service Line for Catholic Health.
