St. Charles Hospital's Nicolette Fiore-Lopez, PhD, to be Inducted as a  Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing

Catholic Health’s St. Charles Hospital is pleased to announce that its Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Nicolette Fiore-Lopez, PhD, RN, CENP, has been selected to be a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. Induction into the Academy is a significant milestone in a nurse leader’s career in which their accomplishments are honored by their colleagues within and outside the profession. Fellows are selected based on their contributions and impact to advance the public’s health. 

Through a competitive, rigorous application process, the Academy’s Fellow Selection Committee reviewed a record number of applications, representing a 30% increase from the previous year, to select the 2022 Fellows. Dr. Fiore-Lopez was one of 250 individuals selected to be inducted. The 2022 Fellows represent 35 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and 17 countries. 

The Academy is an honorific society that recognizes nursing's most accomplished leaders in policy, research, practice, administration, and academia. Academy Fellows, from nearly 40 countries, hold a wide variety of influential roles in health care. Induction into the Fellowship represents more than recognition of one's accomplishments within the nursing profession. Fellows contribute their collective expertise to the Academy, engaging with health leaders nationally and globally to improve health and achieve health equity by impacting policy through nursing leadership, innovation and science.  

The 2022 inductees will be recognized for their significant contributions to health and health care at the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference, taking place on October 27-29, 2022 in Washington, DC. Once the newest Fellows are inducted, the Academy will be comprised of more than 3,000 leaders who are experts in policy, research, administration, practice, and academia that champion health and wellness, locally and globally.

“We are delighted that the American Academy of Nursing has selected Dr. Fiore-Lopez as one of its new fellows,” said St. Charles Hospital President James O’Connor. “This prestigious recognition is a true testament to Dr. Fiore-Lopez’s long-standing career in nursing. She is admired by all who are fortunate to work with her. She is a true role model and is to be commended on this remarkable achievement.”

As St. Charles’ CNO, Dr. Fiore-Lopez serves as the clinical lead, directing a staff of nearly one thousand nurses, social workers, counseling staff and other personnel, ensuring the provision of quality care to the community served that includes programs nationally recognized in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and substance use disorder services. She also serves as adjunct faculty at Stony Brook University, School of Nursing and adjunct faculty at the Marian K. Shaughnessy Nurse Leadership Academy, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve.

Dr. Fiore-Lopez is president of the New York Organization of Nurse Executives and Leaders, co-lead of the Strategic Board Placement Workgroup of the Nurses on Boards Coalition, member of the AONL Advocacy Committee and board member of Molloy College. She previously held various leadership roles at Catholic Health’s Good Samaritan Hospital and NYU Langone Health. An inaugural graduate of the Coldiron Senior Nurse Executive Fellowship Program created by the Marian K. Shaughnessy Nurse Leadership Academy at Case Western Reserve, Dr. Fiore-Lopez holds a PhD from Molloy College, a master’s from New York University, and a bachelor’s in nursing from Hunter College.
