Catholic Health’s Mercy Hospital celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated Breast Center, housed in the Radiology & Imaging Department, marking a significant investment in women’s health and enhanced patient care for the surrounding community.
The project, completed between late 2025 and early 2026, introduces a modernized space designed to improve both clinical excellence and patient experience. The upgraded facility reflects Mercy Hospital’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to advanced imaging services, particularly as breast cancer continues to impact communities nationwide.
“We are proud to unveil this newly renovated space, which represents an important step forward in our mission to continuing to provide high-quality, compassionate care,” said Joseph Manopella, president of Mercy Hospital. “As breast cancer remains prevalent, it is critical that we continue to enhance and expand the services our community relies on. This investment underscores our dedication to supporting women’s health at every stage.”
The renovation includes upgraded mammography exam rooms, enhanced clinical infrastructure, and a newly added private entrance designed to ensure patient comfort, dignity, and privacy. Additional improvements include refreshed interior finishes, optimized layouts, and updated furniture in patient and family waiting areas to create a more welcoming and supportive environment.
“Our goal was to create a modern space that supports both clinical excellence and an exceptional patient experience, and I’m proud to say we’ve accomplished that,” said Ihab Ibrahim, chief operating officer of Mercy Hospital. “We carefully phased construction to ensure the Breast Center remained fully operational throughout the process, allowing us to continue serving patients without interruption. I also want to extend a special thanks to our staff, who didn’t miss a beat. They helped coordinate the construction while continuing to provide outstanding care to our patients.”
Mercy Hospital also recognized the vital contributions of key supporters who made the project possible, including New York State Senator Siela A. Bynoe and The Friends of Mercy, led by President TJ Murray.
“This milestone would not have been possible without the generosity and leadership of our community partners,” Manopella added. “We are deeply grateful for their continued support and trust in our mission.”
The opening celebration concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside donors and Breast Center leadership and staff, symbolizing a new chapter in patient-centered care at Mercy Hospital.
