Catholic Health’s Good Samaritan University Hospital has once again received the prestigious Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) for its Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). This national recognition reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to nursing excellence, quality outcomes and providing a healthy work environment for caregivers.

The AACN confers the Beacon Award for Excellence to hospital units across North America whose nurses meet rigorous criteria in the Beacon Award program’s three modules—Patient Outcomes, Work Environment and Nursing Workforce—and align their practice with the AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards to improve patient outcomes and bolster unit culture.

“This recognition is a powerful testament to the skill, compassion and professionalism of our critical care teams,” said Justin Lundbye, MD, MBA, FACHE, president of Good Samaritan University Hospital. “Earning the Beacon Award for multiple ICUs underscores Good Samaritan University Hospital’s steadfast dedication to excellence in patient care, teamwork and continuous improvement, even in the most complex, high-acuity settings.”

AACN President Rebekah Marsh, BSN, RN, CCRN, commended the teams at Good Samaritan University Hospital for their dedication to meeting and exceeding the high standards set forth by the Beacon Award program.

“The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes caregivers in outstanding units whose consistent and systematic approach to evidence-based care optimizes patient outcomes,” Marsh said. “Units that receive this national recognition serve as role models to others on their journey to excellent patient and family care.”

Participation in the Beacon Award program also allows units to benchmark performance against peers across the United States and Canada, fostering continuous learning and improvement.
