Catholic Sisters Leave Their Mark on Forthcoming Ambulatory & Family Care Center

Catholic Health’s Mercy Hospital (Rockville Centre, NY) is one step closer to unveiling the future site of its Ambulatory & Family Care Center on its Rockville Centre campus. The new state-of-the-art 16,000-square-foot medical office building will enhance patient access to our underserved populations and move its existing outpatient women and children medical clinics located in the hospital (Family Care Center) to this new outpatient setting by this summer. Additionally, the new building will offer new clinical services, including primary care, cardiology, endocrinology and more.

A Congregation of Infant Jesus (CIJ) convent once stood at the site of the future Ambulatory & Family Care Center, which was previously being used as office space by the hospital. In 2021, prior to the demolition of the convent, Mercy executives invited the Sisters of CIJ to visit the site to give it one final blessing and inform them of future plans. Last month, the Sisters were invited back to observe the progress and to leave their mark, or legacy if you will, in the new building given the history.

The Sisters signed a piece of sheetrock and shared names of Sisters who have ties to the former convent. The sheetrock was then placed behind a wall in a permanent stairwell by Mercy’s president, Joe Manopella, further solidifying that the new space will always be deeply rooted in faith, belief and tradition, which was established more than 100 years ago.

The new Ambulatory & Family Care Center is supported by grants received from the Department of Health and Mother Cabrini Health Foundation.
