Catholic Health named Syed Raza, MD, FACP, chief medical officer of Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, NY.
Dr. Raza will oversee the entire medical staff of the 458-bed, not-for-profit hospital, including advanced practice professionals. Good Samaritan is the flagship and tertiary care hub for Catholic Health in Suffolk County, providing premier services that include The Gary H. Richard and Family Stroke & Brain Aneurysm Center, a Verified Adult Level 1 and Pediatric Level 2 Trauma Center, the St. Francis Heart Center, and Catholic Health Cancer Institute at Good Samaritan. The hospital is in the final phases of development of its Patient Care Pavilion, which will feature a new emergency department, state-of-the-art operating rooms and private patient rooms.
Dr. Raza previously served at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston, Texas as its Vice President of Medical Operations and Chief Medical Officer, assisting to lead the 770-bed flagship academic medical center.
Dr. Raza is an industry veteran, whose leadership experience has also encompassed other positions, including Executive Director of Hospitalist Medicine, Medical Staff President, Associate Chair of Medicine, chair of Internal Medicine and Board positions at various institutions. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Raza completed his Residency and Internship in Internal Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine, where he also received his Doctorate of Medicine.
