Catholic Health today announced that four of its hospitals—St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center®, St. Charles Hospital, St. Catherine of Siena Hospital and Mercy Hospital—each earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that sets rigorous standards for patient safety and quality, in its Spring 2026 Hospital Safety Survey. The achievement reflects strong performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

With these latest honors, St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center® has earned its 17th consecutive and 27th overall “A” Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group, the most of any hospital in New York State since the safety grading program launched in 2012. This level of sustained excellence is reflected not only at the Roslyn campus, but across Catholic Health, where its world-renowned cardiovascular services and expertise are integrated to help elevate care system-wide.

“Achieving and sustaining excellence in patient safety requires constant vigilance, collaboration and a deep commitment to continuous improvement,” said Patrick O’Shaughnessy, DO, MBA, president and CEO of Catholic Health. “This recognition reflects the dedication of the clinical teams across our system, who work every day to deliver safe, high-quality care to the communities we serve.”

Contributing to this milestone achievement were St. Charles Hospital, which earned its 12th “A” grade, St. Catherine of Siena Hospital, which received its seventh, and Mercy Hospital, which earned its fourth, all reflecting strong performance across key safety metrics.

These results reflect Catholic Health’s longstanding commitment to excellence and system-wide focus on standardizing best practices, investing in advanced technologies and fostering a culture where safety is embedded in every aspect of care delivery.

The Leapfrog Group biannually assigns letter grades to hospitals nationwide based on their ability to protect patients from preventable harm. The program is widely recognized as one of the most transparent and trusted measures of hospital safety in the United States.
