Features of Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

Physical activity is vital to your recovery. We will create an exercise program specific to your condition and physical capabilities before starting rehabilitation. Your plan will include aerobic activity, resistance training, stretching and flexibility, and upper and lower body strengthening.

As part of your program, you will attend group sessions that generally meet several times a week for 12 to 18 weeks. Each session includes initial setup, pre and post-exercise vital signs assessment, and warm-up/cool-down.

These sessions, held at our rehabilitation facilities, use the latest exercise equipment like arm ergometers, stationary bicycles, seated stepper and weights, and treadmills.

Your medically supervised program is overseen by an expert cardiac team, including board-certified cardiologists, exercise physiologists, registered nurses and cardiac rehabilitation clinicians. We use electrocardiogram (ECG) testing and blood pressure monitoring to ensure you’re staying safe. We evaluate and adjust your plan as needed.

Cardiac rehabilitation goes beyond exercise. We also help you incorporate healthy changes into your daily life. Through health education and support, you can learn how to:

  • Eat a heart-healthy diet
  • Exercise safely
  • Gain self confidence
  • Manage your blood pressure
  • Manage your stress

Once you’ve completed your cardiac rehabilitation program, you may be eligible for a supplemental program so you can keep your active lifestyle on track.

Catholic Health hospitals offer numerous health and wellness classes, including:

  • Blood pressure control
  • Cholesterol screenings
  • Diabetes support
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Smoking cessation clinics
  • Stress management techniques
  • Weight management
