Comfort & Care

Good Shepherd Hospice, a member of Catholic Health, provides expert medical, emotional and spiritual care for patients with serious illness as well as support for their loved ones. We provide both palliative care services and hospice services to support patients and families throughout the entire course of a serious illness to improve symptom control and enhance quality of life.

Hospice and palliative care aren’t about giving up or losing hope. They are about finding comfort, care and compassion and affirming life and dignity. Good Shepherd Hospice provides support so that patients and their families may live each day fully.

Hospice is a philosophy of care, not a specific place. Our dedicated team offers care wherever needed. Most often in a patient’s or family member’s home but also at assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, or our specially designed hospice centers. Our focus is on quality of life and symptom control. Our goal is to provide care that honors the patient's and family’s goals and values.

About Good Shepherd Hospice

Good Shepherd Hospice was created in 2001 by the merger of Good Samaritan, St. Charles, and Mercy Hospices and represents a combined 50 years of experience serving the Long Island community.

We are part of Catholic Health, the health care ministry of the Diocese of Rockville Centre. We employ more than 200 staff members and have over 100 dedicated volunteers.

The mission of Good Shepherd Hospice is to expand and enhance health care for patients with serious illness and their families who live throughout Long Island. We also educate the community about the benefits of hospice and palliative care services.

As part of Catholic Health, Good Shepherd Hospice carries on the tradition of helping those in need on Long Island. The mission of Catholic Health allows us to bring Catholic health care to our communities—serving the greater good with integrity, justice and respect for the dignity of all.
